I've been looking on blogs and
deviantART, and I think maybe changing the way I do my studies might be a good idea...It seems like when people go to figure drawing sessions, or do gesture drawings...They always have some sort of time limit, right? So maybe I need to get some of that in my studying time...So I can do more, in the same amount of time :o.
Hey Chris, it's Ashley from ashleywalters.net. I am so glad to see you motivated to draw figures. It will serve you well.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked out figuredrawing.com? It was a great resource for me when I had sketchbook assignments from my figure drawing class in college. There are great reference photos of the human form there.
And if you are looking for great inspiration I would check out Robert Barrett. He's my favorite modern figure artist. Look him up on google. He uses colored chalk to offer vibrancy and movement to his figures.
I have also found that using colored paper and using utensils like white prisma colored pencil or a lighter chalk to bring out the highlights saves time because the color of the paper has already filled in your mid-tones.
Ashley Walters? NO WAY! I'm a fan of yours! I can't believe someone like YOU has seen MY humble little blog :P.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't checked out that website before, but I'm there right now and it seems awesome! Thanks a lot for telling me about it :). I'm going to try and use some of it's reference when I do my drawings today :).
Robert Barrett's work is really great, I'll always keep it in mind so I can stay motivated to improve :). Thanks for telling me about him.
I've heard about using toned or coloured paper...I think I'll have to invest in one of those sketchbooks that have beige pages instead of white ones, so I can try your method :)
Thanks again for checking my blog out Ashley, it really means a lot to me :).
